Surroundings
As you exit the building, a left turn past one apartment building will take you to the corner and the Supervielle Bank and its ATM.
If you continue straight across Charcas Blvd. the restaurant/bar Sigi is on that corner with indoor/outdoor seating. It is named for Sigmund Freud because this upper middle-class area is home to many psychologists' offices.
If you continue on Av. Salguero (just a name change from Medrano) within the first block is a gym with weekly memberships on the second floor at #1824, then Sweetly, a small modern coffee shop, followed by the DVD Zone at #1838, which rents DVDs for 5 pesos per night. Another 1.5 blocks further brings you to Av. Santa Fe which has the Green Line or D subway (70 centavos a ride) and numerous bus lines (152,39, 29,12,) all stopping within ½ block of the corner. Line 152 goes straight down Santa Fe to within a short walk to Puerto Madero.
Starting over at Sigi’s, if you turn right and cross Av. Salguero you will be on the corner of the Velvet Restaurant in its outdoor seating section—the sidewalk runs through the middle of it. The menu is mostly Italian, but beware, the portions are huge, and one order will easily feed two or three normal people. Please note that all three restaurants on the square will happily deliver to your apartment for the usual 10% tip.
If you continue straight down Charcas Blvd. which is one of the very few streets in the city with a pedestrian-only mall, the next three blocks are filled with:
4 Specialty ice cream stores (Belezzi, Munchi, Victoria
4 Bakeries
2 furniture Stores
6 restaurants—4 with outdoor seating
1 Flower Kiosko
2 Newstands
Returning to our building, if you exit and turn right a few doors down is the Fratello specialty ice cream shop with a choice of indoor seating or outdoor seating under yellow umbrellas. Above them is the Narziso Club—a gym with juice bar—weekly memberships available.
Across the street is the beautiful Guadalupe Cathedral. Almost next to it is Pinot, another bar/restaurant with (you guessed it) indoor and outdoor seating. It is the prettiest of the 3 restaurants on the square..
